Trone kicks off campaign fundraising effort with $2 million personal “down payment”
Says extra effort is needed because of new district lines, and because
“I have never taken money from PACs, lobbyists, or corporations and never will.
I’m not their Representative; I’m yours.”
GAITHERSBURG, MD. — The re-election campaign for Congressman David Trone announced today that he has made a personal contribution of $2 million to his Congressional re-election campaign. He characterized the donation as a “down payment” on what he promises will be an aggressive, fully-funded effort to win re-election so that he can continue representing the people of Maryland’s Sixth District in the US House of Representatives.
This afternoon, Trone sent an email to his supporters to inform them that he is a new addition the 2022 NRCC Target List, and that national Republicans have “recommitted themselves to funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to my likely opponent….I need your help.” In the email, Trone said that “my race just got a lot more competitive. We don’t yet have confirmation of what the Sixth District will look like in this election, but we know that we’ll have much less of an advantage than we did two years ago. We also know that the national political environment is not nearly as favorable.”
He told his supporters that he is asking for their individual contributions because “I have never taken money from PACs, lobbyists, or corporations and never will. I’m not their Representative; I’m yours.” Trone also promised that “we will win this race by working smarter and harder, communicating clearly, and fully funding our winning strategy.”
Trone is seeking a third term in Congress where he has had notable success on issues that touch the lives of the people of Maryland’s Sixth District and nationwide: opioid addiction, mental health, medical research, and criminal justice reform. He is a member of the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees. He served as co-chair of the U.S. Commission on Combating Synthetic Opioid Trafficking and founded the Congressional Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force.
A Maryland native, Congressman David Trone was first elected in November 2018 to represent Maryland’s 6th District in the House of Representatives. The district includes all or parts of Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, Montgomery, and Washington Counties. Before his election to Congress, Trone had a successful career in business, most notably as founder and CEO of Total Wine & More which is headquartered in Bethesda and has 229 retail stores in 27 states nationwide. David and June Trone are parents of four adult children.
