POTOMAC – Today, David Trone, Democratic congressional candidate for Maryland’s 6th district, announced the endorsement of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 500.
SEIU Local 500 is focused on growing and improving the lives of public sector workers across Maryland and Washington D.C. It is a part of International SEIU’s Public Service Division, an organization of 2 million-members focused on the dignity and worth of workers and the services they provide and dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families and creating a more just and humane society.
“For voters in Montgomery County and Western Maryland, the choice couldn’t be more clear. Our members stand with David because he is committed to standing with us and restoring some semblance of sanity in Washington DC,” said Merle Cuttitta, President of SEIU Local 500.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement from SEIU Local 500,” said David Trone. “Today, benefits for workers and everyday Americans are more in danger than ever. After giving a $1.9 trillion tax cut to the biggest corporations, President Trump and Mitch McConnell want to make Social Security and Medicare pay for it. I will stand with the educators and workers of SEIU Local 500 and fight for the Social Security and Medicare benefits they have earned. We must put an end to handouts to the wealthy at the cost of the educators and workers of the middle class.”
Trone adds this to a list of other organizational endorsements, including the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, Sierra Club, NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, MoCo Women, Jewish Democratic Council of America, Humane Society Legislative Fund, and the Coalition of Asian Pacific American Democrats of Maryland (CAPAC-MD).
