As a father of three dogs, supporting animal protection organizations is an important part of my life.
I was raised on a family farm and animals have always been an important part of my life. Growing up I had five dogs – Ladd, Ace, Rusty, Sandy, and Jackie – and my siblings and I spent countless hours around horses. I’m the proud father of three dogs – Hubert, Lyndon, and Lola. Hubert and Lyndon are named after two great Democrats, Hubert Humphrey and Lyndon Johnson!
Both personally and through my company, I have supported animal protection organizations. Some examples in Maryland include the Baltimore Humane Society, Pet Rescue of Maryland, ReLove Animals, Inc., and Lucky Dog Rescue.
In Congress, I will fight for better animal protection laws. Some of my top animal protection priorities will be combatting puppy mills, requiring more humane methods of animal slaughter, ending exports of horses for slaughter, and banning the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption.
I’m also a big supporter of companion animal initiatives. I’ve been involved with the Madison House Autism Foundation and their Madison Fields Equine Therapy Program. I’ve seen firsthand how people with this disorder can benefit from bonding with animals. I will support legislation to help make companion animal programs available to those who can benefit.
